What We Believe & Value
We Episcopalians believe in a loving, liberating, and life-giving God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We set our hearts on following the teachings of Jesus Christ, and trust that his life, death and resurrection have reconciled all people with God.
We believe that we are a part of God’s reconciling work in the world, and that each person has gifts for making God’s dream of a healed and loving world a reality.
We have a legacy of inclusion, procaliming God’s love for every human being; women and men serve as bishops, priests, and deacons in our church. Laypeople and clergy cooperate as leaders at all levels of our church. Leadership is a gift from God, and can be expressed by all people in our church, regardless of sexual identity or orientation.
The worldwide Anglican Communion (of which all Episcopalians are a part) identified these values as describing our mission as a church.
The Five Marks of Mission:
- To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom
- To teach, baptize and nurture new believers
- To respond to human need by loving service
- To seek to transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind and to pursue peace and reconciliation
- To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth
We believe that God loves you – no exceptions!
