APRIL!
On April 24-25, we will visit two museums: The Negro Baseball Leagues Museum and the Steamboat Arabia Museum .Both are highly recommended. Please sign up in the parish hall and fill in all requested info. If we have enough drivers, cars are the surest way to predict our schedule. Some are reserving the train ($58 plus tax round trip), a fun option if Amtrak doesn’t get delayed significantly by freight trains. The baseball museum is world famous, and people have told us the steamboat museum is quite interesting. Loaded with goods for westward-bound pioneer families, it ran aground in the Missouri near Kansas City and sank. The steamboat was ultimately located beneath a Kansas farmer’s field; 25 years later continuing salvage efforts reveal interesting cargo.
We will depart from Grace at 8 am to see the Negro Baseball Museum at 2:30 on April 24, and the Steamboat Arabia Museum about 10 am before we return on the 25th. We have reserved rooms at Holiday Inn Express—Downtown (make your reservation with code: GOG; $149 plus tax; $25 secured parking; free breakfast). Our hotel is in a renovated historic building and near the Power & Light District with a choice of restaurants and entertainment.
